Someone posted this reply to my blog post on better wages & treatment for household help:
“this is stupid… the reason why some people get maid is because they want to lessen their hectic schedules. maids deserve proper salary,proper treatment but not to the point that you will treat them as they are on your level…”
How can something that advocates better treatment of others be stupid? Also, the business of not treating people “as they are on your level” is why the world is messed up in the first place. Evil Spanish Frairs did not treat Indios as on their level. 19th century Americans did not treat black people as on their level. Ignorant expat bosses in Makati do not treat Filipino employees as on their level. The politicians & the oligarchs of our nation do not treat the madlang people as on their level.Treating people equally is what every decent person of proper intellect strives for.
It’s funny how the many people can be moved by dolphin deaths, heartbreak songs, sad vegan vampires & poor Disney princesses but be so callous about real people, in their own homes.
